A three-dimensional world to immerse yourself in the heart of art.

Van Gogh – the Dutch post-impressionist artist was one of the most famous and influential painters in the history of Western art. However, he lived a very short life of 37 years and became famous only after his death. He became an artist at the age of 27 and completed around 2100 artworks in a span of 10 years. In his entire lifetime, he sold only 1 painting while most of his artworks became famous after his death.

I visited the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam last year (August 2022) and witnessed some of his most beautiful works on display. Every painting had a story to tell – a story about his life – anxiety, suffering, love, and hope. Even today, his work inspires the world. All his paintings have bold and dramatic brushstrokes with texture which express emotions and add a feeling of movement to the paintings. His most famous paintings – Sunflowers, Almond Blossom, The Potato Eaters, The Starry Night and his self-portraits express his unique style of painting – Impasto which involves creating brush strokes using thick layers of paint. It’s fascinating to see how each paint is layered upon the other giving it the Impasto effect.

Coincidence or not – the Van Gogh 360 Immersive Art show debuted in India, Mumbai in the next 6 months (Feb 2023). It was absolutely worth watching his paintings come to life, where you are surrounded by the art and become a part of the masterpiece as it is projected around on the walls. This is a brilliant combination of art and technology, and the impressive soundtracks that accompany the performance just gives it a wow feeling.

It was enthralling to watch the flowers fly by and sit on the almond tree one after the other. Soon the entire room was filled with beautiful white flowers blooming against a blue sky creating one of his most famous artworks – Almond Blossom.

It’s a visual treat to watch the paintings transition one after the other. The entire experience was very unique and exhilarating and I landed up watching 2 of these shows. I’d love to see more such immersive art shows come to India. All in all – a must visit for both young and old audience, especially if you are an art lover.
